We
are an international group of women apostles committed to sharing
in the mission of Jesus Christ. We dedicate our lives to the spread
of the Gospel especially in Africa. By the witness of our lives,
the sharing of our faith and through our work with the poor wherever
we are in the world, we strive to bring alive Christ’s message
of “Good News to the Poor”.
OLA’s work in 13 countries on the continent of Africa from Botswana in the South,
to Tanzania in the East, Egypt, Lebanon and Algeria
in the North and Nigeria,Ghana,,
Benin,Togo, Chad, Ivory Coast, Niger, and Burkina Faso
in the West.In Europe we are in Ireland,England, ItalyFrance and Holland.
And in the America's, OLA’s are to be found in Argentina and Quebec, Canada. We draw strength and inspiration
from the experience of Our Lady and the Apostles in the ‘Upper
Room’ who were filled with the love, joy and energy of their
Pentecost experience. Following their example we are signs of
HOPE for all peoples to whom we are sent.
Since our beginnings in 1876 in France,
OLA’s continue to fulfil the intense missionary dream of
our founder Fr. Augustine Planque, to be of service to the Gospel
particularly with the people of Africa. By God’s grace,
we serve where the Gospel has yet to be rooted and where human
need is greatest. Our priority is for the poor and marginalised,
especially for women and children.
For
the past 130 years, faithful to the vision of our Founder, OLA
Sisters have continued the work confided to the Congregation by
the Church. Faithful to the vision of the founder particularly
towards primary evangelization in Africa, the Sisters are committed
to:
• Being courageous and competent
women, like the Apostles, ready to leave all for the sake of the
Gospel.
• Living the Spirituality of
the Cenacle which prepares them for their Apostolic work
• Being witnesses to the universality
of the church by living in international communities
• Working for the formation
and education of women and Christian families
