Reflections on Creation

It seems fitting to reflect on creation at this wonderful time of year, and I am reminded again of the lecture given to us in the Spring by Sr Nellie McLaughlin of the Mercy Sisters. Looking around us we are aware that we walk with God in this inspiring Autumn Season. What we see is only a fractional part of what it really is. However one can't change what’s going on around us until one starts changing what’s going on within us. We see the world not as it is but as we are.

"We are not human beings on a spiritual journey. We are spiritual beings on a human Journey." ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Mysticism is sensing the Divine in the wonder of Creation.

"The day of my spiritual awakening was the day I saw and knew I saw God in all things and all things in God" ~ Mechtild of Magdeburg

God is with us in all of life instead of standing on the sidelines, critiquing which things belong and which do not. Everything is holy, for those who have learned how to see. The Blessed Trinity flows through everything, and has done so from the beginning. God is the life energy between each and every object which we would usually call Love or Spirit. Protons, neutrons and atoms have a similar pattern as planets, stars and galaxies which are in orbit and all is relation to everything else. We share the same atoms, minerals and chemicals as the stars. We are Stardust!

"Be still, my soul these trees are praying." ~ Rabindranath Tagore

"If you know, how to listen to trees, you attain wisdom." ~ Hermann Hesse

“A smart seeker said: I have always longed to see God everywhere and in all things, and live in God's presence. I have practiced it but I haven't succeeded.

The sage replied: "This isn't something you bring about by practice, when you understand who you are, you'll no longer seek God's presence, you'll realise that you are God's presence.”

~ from The Ocean in the Dewdrop by Francis J. Padinjarekara

Our Holy Father Pope Francis has made us aware of how badly we are treating the planet. Whatever we do to the environment we do to the poor. We ask for God's mercy for any neglect of our part in bringing about a better future for God's universe.

May the blessing of light be upon us, light on the outside light on the inside. With God's sunlight shining on you may your heart glow with warmth like a turf fire that welcomes friends and strangers alike.
