Pope's Prayer Intention for April

Pope Francis' universal prayer intention for April 2018 focuses on those who have responsibility for 'economic matters'.

The pontiff prays that 'economists may have the courage to reject any economy of exclusion and know how to open new paths'.

In the video to accompany this intention [see below], Pope Francis highlights the practice of reducing the workforce to increase profit which only serves to increase the numbers in the ranks of excluded. He calls on the 'leaders to today' to put the human person in first place and do everything possible to ensure they have opportunities of 'dignified work'.

Consumerism and the role of money were central themes in Pope Francis' 2013 apostolic exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium. He warned that such a focus on material goods was creating a more unequal world where many were excluded.
