| “
This is what Yahweh asks of you:
only this, to act justly,
to love tenderly
and to walk humbly with your God.”
(Micah 6.8)
The
Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles commit themselves to live
out these words from the bible through their Missionary
Charism.
As
the Constitutions of our OLA Congregation state:
“With
the audacity of Apostles,
we commit our lives to the service of the Gospel,
ready to risk all for the Lord.
Attentive to the hopes and searchings of the peoples to
whom we are sent and who receive us,
we keep before us the urgent reality of the Kingdom
we are called to proclaim and extend.”
Our
study of Catholic Social Teachings and the commitments of
our Congregation alongside our experience in Africa has
confirmed for us that a commitment to building a more just,
peaceful and harmonious world is at the very heart of our
Mission towards the building of God’s Kingdom.
In 1993 the leaders of the OLA Congregation reminded us;
“Consecrated
for Evangelization, we work towards the building of a new
world, according to God’s plan. We make concrete this
choice by being open to the world and being actively involved
with the poor for the advent of a world of justice, a world
of peace and liberty.”
To
strengthen and deepen this commitment to working towards
a new world we are encouraged to regularly reflect on the
above words from the prophet Micah.
Through
our work in Education, Catechesis, Health Care, Pastoral
Care and Social Development projects our Sisters consistently
strive to promote the well being, dignity, rights and freedom
of the people among whom we live and work. |
