The Congregation of Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles was founded in Lyons, France, in 1876 by Fr Augustine Planque, S.M.A. This was in response to the belief held at the time by many Missionary Priests that to enable African women to have access to the Gospel message and values, women missionaries were needed

At first, Fr Planque hoped to get Sisters of the home Congregations to volunteer for work in the S.M.A. missions.

Augustine Planque was born on July 25th 1826 at Chemy, a little village in the North of France. He was the fourth child and first son in a family of ten children born to Pierre and Augustina Planque

From the 1920’s to the 1970’s the growth of education can be seen under two broad headings: Teacher Training Colleges and Secondary Schools.

Our title “Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles” was given to us by our Founder Fr Augustine Planque, SMA and the vision of Mary with the Apostles in the Upper Room at Pentecost forms the basis of our “Cenacle Spirituality”.

In Europe we are in Ireland, England, Italy and Holland....

Working with women has always been a priority for OLA’s...
